The Algarve · Sea, River & Lake

The Fishing.
Why it Matters.

Three completely different fishing experiences — ocean, river and lake — within an hour of each other. This is why the Algarve is unlike anywhere else in Europe.

Atlantic Sea Fishing

The Best Sea Fishing in Europe

The Algarve coastline sits where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean — a collision of currents that creates some of the richest fishing grounds on the continent. Portugal consistently ranks among the top sea fishing destinations in Europe, and the Algarve is its crown jewel.

From dramatic cliffside rock marks to offshore charter boats, the variety is extraordinary. The crystal-clear waters hold species that anglers travel across the world to catch.

"The Atlantic swell brings big fish close to shore year-round. Spring and autumn are exceptional for bass and bream from the rocks; summer opens up the offshore bluefin tuna runs."

River Fishing

Wild Rivers, Dawn Mist & Silence

Inland from the coast, the rivers of the Algarve and neighbouring Alentejo offer a completely different kind of fishing — slower, quieter, and deeply restorative. The Arade and Guadiana rivers wind through ancient cork forests, their banks untouched and their waters remarkably clear.

River fishing here is about stillness. The kind that is almost impossible to find anywhere else in modern life — no phone signal, no traffic, just running water and the occasional splash.

"Dawn on the Guadiana river, mist lifting off the water and nothing but the sound of birds and current — this is what people remember most."

Lake Fishing

Glassy Lakes, Golden Light

The reservoirs and natural lakes of the Alentejo and Algarve hinterland are among Portugal's best-kept secrets. Vast, calm, and almost entirely unfished by tourists — these waters hold genuinely impressive stocks of coarse and predatory fish.

On a still morning, the surface is like glass. The light comes in low and golden. There is nowhere on earth quite like it for a man who needs to properly decompress.

"The Alqueva reservoir — the largest artificial lake in Western Europe — holds extraordinary bass and carp in its coves and submerged forest edges."

The Story Behind Azul Resets

A fisherman since
the age of five.

Gary Foxcroft has been fishing since before he could properly hold a rod. From the rivers of his childhood to the Atlantic cliffs of Portugal, the water has been a constant — the one place where everything else genuinely stops.

Over the years, Gary built organisations, ran schools, founded and led NGOs, served as CEO across multiple ventures. He knows what it means to carry that weight — the board meetings, the funding pressures, the endless screen time, the 6am emails, the decisions that follow you home. He also has three kids, horses, donkeys, and all the glorious chaos that comes with a full life.

Fishing was never a hobby. It was a reset mechanism. The thing that broke the cycle when the madness of deadlines and meetings and the noise of modern leadership threatened to become too much. Two hours on a quiet river bank and the world looked different.

Azul Resets exists because Gary wanted to give other men — the ones running things, building things, holding things together — access to the same experience. Not a packaged wellness programme. Not group therapy by the sea. Just a properly arranged, genuinely restorative time in one of the most beautiful corners of Europe, built entirely around you.

He has been lucky enough to have the Algarve. Now he wants to share it.

Algarve, Southern Portugal

Three ecosystems.
One extraordinary region.

The Algarve is the only place in Europe where you can fish the Atlantic in the morning, a cork-forest river at dawn, and a vast inland lake in the afternoon — all within driving distance, all with a guide who knows every spot intimately.
